Coach Gomez is the second head coach for the revived Mustangs soccer program. A native of Pittsburgh, A.G. graduated from Gateway Sr. High School in June 1976 and immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps. As a Marine, he earned the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and held several leadership positions, such as Drill Instructor, Maintenance Control Chief, Avionics Chief and Squadron Gunny Sergeant. Gomez graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1988 earning a B.S. in Aviation Management. In August of 1989, he was ordered to MCAS Tustin CA to instruct avionic technicians. While stationed at Tustin, he attended Webster University and earned an M.A. in Management and an M.A. in Health Service Management.
In June of 1996 A.G. retired from active duty to participate in the “Troops to Teacher" program. A.G.’s first teaching assignment was teaching “at-risk” students at Onancock Learning Center on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Gomez then taught in Chesapeake, Virginia in a special program for at-risk adolescent children for 18 years. He has been honored as a Troops to Teacher Mentor of the Year and featured in an online article by the U.S. Marine Corps.
A.G. and his wife Peggy are the Co-founders and CEOs of G&G Leadership Coaching LLC. G&G leadership coaching is designed to teach/mentor/coach athletes, coaches and soccer referees in the rigors of leadership. A.G. has five grown children and six grandchildren. His hobbies includes RVing, camping, coaching soccer, and training soccer referees.
