MACU Earns Weekend Split

MACU Earns Weekend Split

On the road for the second straight weekend to start the season, the Lady Mustangs continued their early season trend of playing tight games down the stretch.

The team began their weekend at the Quality Inn Invitational playing host Davis College.  A back and forth affair throughout the evening that featured multiple lead changes, with neither team holding a decisive advantage, would ultimately see a late MACU push fall short as the home team Lady Falcons hung on for a three point win, 63-60.  The Mustangs were led by Aleah McNeal with 12 points and 8 rebounds with freshmen Regina Woodley setting the tone on the glass with a career high 11 rebounds.

In the Saturday afternoon match-up, MACU would face off against the Nittany Lions of Penn State York.  For the second day in a row the game would come down to the wire with the Lady Mustangs trailing by just three points.  After a missed shot and a scramble for the lose ball, McNeal would come up with offensive rebound finding a wide open Talethia Alexander for the game tying three pointer with just 3 seconds left on the clock.  Overtime would see the Lady Mustangs at their best as the team picked up the defensive intensity and pushed the tempo of the game enroute to the 92-81 win.

Senior Tierra Lester led the way for the Lady Mustangs with a career high 27 points and 12 rebounds to notch her second double double of the young season.  McNeal added 23 points, 12 assists and 12 rebounds to record the programs first ever triple double with junior Eryka Vincent putting in a stellar shooting day from the floor going 7-10 for 18 points.

The Lady Mustangs return to Chesson Gym for their home opener November 16 at 6pm against NCAA Division III opponent Greensboro College.  For ticket information or to see how you can be a part of the Mustang Nation Club and receive your season pass to every Men's and Women's Basketball home game in 2017-18, go to Join the Mustang Nation Club!
